The Journey
While operating at sea and especially at night, navigation buoys play a vital role in alerting ships to high risk areas by use of warning lights. Previously it could take days to detect a faulty lantern and even longer to manually validate the problem, putting ships at risk.
To address this, we helped SRT design a compact and cost-effective solution to automatically monitor and detect faulty buoy lanterns.
Designing for Extreme Marine Environments
By working closely with electrical and manufacturing partners we were able to develop a system capable of installation in minutes on any commercially available lantern type with no specialised tools. With a design rugged enough to survive harsh sea environments and off-grid solar power the system is able to operate for years without maintenance.
The Delivery
Realise delivered an adaptable and cost effective solution including a rugged light sensor and solar panel system that helped SRT reduce fault detection from days to just minutes. This has enabled operators to identify issues at an early stage, minimise downtime and elevate safety levels within marine navigation.
