The Design Challenge
Producing the next generation range of AIS Class B Transceivers for sea going vessel, Realise unified EmTrak’s AIS product range into a singular, universal housing; used across multiple product SKU’s and fitting into a new logistical and shipping process. Whilst providing class leading aesthetics, the product also had to be waterproof to IP68, withstand the harshest of marine environments, and be readily retrofitted into existing vessels.
Our Design Solutions
A range of concept proposals were generated, each displaying unique visual and functional features that set them apart from competitor units. The chosen design route was then developed further; detailing sealing, mounting and assembly features, in collaboration with EmTraks electronics design team who redesigned the internal GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and VHF systems.
A sleek stainless-steel mounting bracket was designed to provide the user with a quick and easy method of mounting the product to the wall. A reassuring audible click provides the assurance of security.
Iterative prototyping was vital, allowing us to test and communicate the design at every stage of the process and find ways to improve performance, overcome integration challenges, and reduce complexity.
The final design was detailed in CAD and pre-production prototypes were created to prove the products’ viability in the current market.
Through onsite support with Em-Tracks factory in Dongguan China, Realise delivered modernised, user-focussed product through first-off production and testing, all against an accelerated development schedule.
The updated design has set the visual standard for future units in the Em Trak AIS range.
